Dr. John Unger, your Cincinnati dentist, does not accept Medicaid, but he is in-network with Ameritas, Delta Premier, Anthem Complete/300, Dental Care Plus, Superior, and Cigna DNSP. We recommend contacting your provider to learn about any copays or deductibles, especially if you're seeking treatment out-of-network.

If you don’t have dental insurance, ask about our convenient in-office plan. The John V. Unger DDS Membership Plan allows you to pay a monthly or yearly fee to get the services you and your family members need to achieve and maintain optimal oral health. We offer plans for adults, children, and those with periodontal disease. Our program also includes member discounts on specific services.

Aside from our in-house plan—which has become a patient favorite—we accept all major credit cards, cash, and financing through Lending USA.

At John V. Unger, DDS, we offer these flexible and varied options because we want area patients and families to access quality dental care and financial peace of mind.

We look forward to warmly welcoming you into our dental office. Call today to schedule a checkup with our friendly dentist.

At John V. Unger, DDS, we make every effort to perform needed treatment in our dental office. This includes everything from root canal therapy to dental implant surgery. We have the skills and knowledge to perform these treatments and the ability to keep you relaxed and comfortable while doing so.

Sometimes, however—either due to the complexity of treatment or the complexity of your medical conditions—it is necessary to refer treatment to a specialist.

We only refer to specialists that our staff would trust with their own teeth, and we always decide with your best outcome in mind! Additionally, the specialists we work with share our commitment to patient comfort and quality dentistry.

If a referral is necessary, your Cincinnati dentist will discuss the reasons with you and provide all needed information about the specialist he has in mind. Meanwhile, our dental team will work to choose a specialist who accepts your insurance plan and one who can accommodate your schedule.

We Care About Your Oral Health

Your oral health is always our top priority, and the specialists we work with share this ideal. If you would like to learn more, or schedule an exam in our dental office, contact a team member today.

At John V. Unger, DDS, we pride ourselves on making every procedure as painless and efficient as possible. Our priority when you’re with us is always to give you an excellent dental experience.

We also offer comfy neck pillows so you can relax while Dr. Unger sees to your oral health.

Additionally, we never start an invasive procedure unless the treatment area is thoroughly numb. With our anesthesia, you will notice work being done, but you should not feel anything close to pain. If you ever feel uncomfortable, raise your hand, and we’ll stop treatment to address your concern.

Our relaxing dentistry is especially beneficial for children and those who feel anxious in the dental setting.

After treatment—and with specific procedures like extractions and root canals—you may notice mild discomfort for a day or two. Your Cincinnati dentist can recommend a drugstore pain reliever to see you through.

Preventive Dentistry

Yes, you need a dental checkup even if you don’t notice oral changes or have tooth pain.

No pain is a good thing, of course, but serious dental issues could still be hiding. Just like high blood pressure or cancer, serious tooth and gum issues may not cause pain until you’re dealing with a difficult situation that requires ongoing treatment.

Dr. John Unger and his team always want to prevent the need for expensive and time-consuming treatments for all patients. Instead, we want you to enjoy a comfortable and pain-free smile for life through prevention.

Your Cincinnati dentist and the American Dental Association recommend you keep up with regular exams, digital x-rays, and professional teeth cleanings to prevent a smaller issue from becoming a painful and more expensive oral health condition in the future.

We also recommend regular brushing and flossing at home to complete your prevention plan—keeping your teeth and gums healthy between dental visits. With our dental team's efforts and your at-home regimen, you should expect to enjoy a healthier smile.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Invisalign is a discreet orthodontic system that straightens teeth without metal or wires. Because the aligners are virtually invisible, Invisalign is a popular choice with adults wanting to straighten their teeth without drawing attention to treatment.

Your dentist takes careful impressions of your teeth and sends the results to the Invisalign lab for aligner fabrication. You wear the first aligner for approximately two weeks before switching to the next in the series. You continue this way until you have used your last aligner.

Across the treatment timeline, you’ll notice your teeth slowly coming into their proper positions. And periodically, you will visit your Cincinnati dentist to make sure your teeth are lining up on schedule.

With this system, you can remove your aligners during meals or to brush and floss your teeth. This helps prevent oral health conditions like cavities and infections during treatment.

Ideally, you should wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day, and treatment can take anywhere from several months or up to two years.

Dental Implants

If you have missing or broken teeth, deciding to restore your smile is crucial. It not only boosts your self-esteem, but a full smile also contributes to better oral health and promotes a more diverse diet.

Dr. John Unger relies on a variety of methods and treatments to restore smiles. And his approach is based on your unique needs.

If you have a broken or damaged tooth, your Cincinnati dentist may recommend treatment followed by a dental crown. A dental crown is a cap that goes over your tooth to restore function and aesthetics. It is designed to look like a natural tooth and always matches the shade of your neighboring teeth.

For patients with missing teeth, Dr. Unger assesses your oral health and makes recommendations for restoring your smile.

Our tooth replacement options include:

  • Dentures and partials
  • Dental implants
  • Implant-supported restorations
  • Dental bridges

Deciding which option is best for you depends on several factors, including your jawbone health, budget, and smile goals.

You can use one or a variety of options to restore your smile, and Dr. Unger can help you reach your smile goals through innovative dentistry.
